Nikas Safronov is the author of Donald Trump's portrait presented on behalf of Vladimir Putin

Russian artist Nikas Safronov is the author of a portrait of U.S. President Donald Trump that was presented to him on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was reported by CNN.

According to CNN, the painting was delivered to Donald Trump in March 2025 through his special envoy Steve Witkoff. He later said that the American leader was truly touched by the gift.

The canvas depicts Donald Trump in the moments after the attempt on his life during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024. The artist captured the moment when, despite what had happened, the politician raises his hand as a sign of strength and unity.

In the background are the U.S. flag, the Statue of Liberty, and an urban skyline that reinforce the symbolic tone of the work. In an interview with CNN, Nikas Safronov said it was important for him to convey the emotional and historical weight of the moment.

"It was important for me to show the blood, the scar, and his courage during the assassination attempt. He did not break down or become afraid; he raised his hand to show that he stands with America."

The artist also said that the idea for the portrait arose after he was approached by people who wished to remain anonymous. They suggested portraying Trump as the author himself saw him. Safronov said that during the process he realized the possible significance of the work as a symbol of dialogue between countries and decided to create it without payment.

Later, the artist said, Vladimir Putin contacted him and emphasized that such an artistic gesture could become an important step toward improving relations between Russia and the United States.
